Daniel Wheeler > Random Family and Friend Pictures photo
Daniel Wheeler > Probably my most favorite picture of Alex since he's joined our family...We were trying to get a holiday picture so that we could give as a gift to some of our immediate family members. He wasn't exactly smiley, so we struggled initially to get a good picture. We soon realized that he was completely obsessed with the Christmas lights, so we sat him next to a string and he did everything in his power to reach the lights. This picture was taken right after he rolled over (another of his favorite things to do) and reached for the lights. You can see the sense of accomplishment and joy on his little face :)
Daniel Wheeler > On the way back home, we stopped off along the highway so I could take a quick picture of Mt Rundle near Banff, AB. This is probably the most photographed mountain in the area, and is a symbol for the Canadian Rockies. The morning clouds hadn't quite lifted yet, which added a nice effect when combined with the morning sunshine.
Daniel Wheeler > Didn't see many people along this highway, so it was very easy to just stop in the middle of the road, get out, set up the tripod and take a picture. We stayed in Lake Louise at the Fairmont Chateau, and although we were only 35km away, we felt worlds away since nobody was out sightseeing due to the weather conditions.
Daniel Wheeler > After driving for a few hours along the Columbia Icefields highway, we turned around at this point...We were starting to feel pretty far out there, and given we didn't have a very reliable rental car and it was -45°C outside, we decided it was time to turn back towards the hotel.
Daniel Wheeler > The world famous viewpoint of Peyto Lake. I've seen this picture many times in the Summer, but haven't seen many pics from the Winter. This was actually a tough spot to get to because the road was closed for the season, so I had to hike up from the highway. Wasn't too long, but considering how cold it was, and how underdressed I was, I felt a bit out of my element and was very happy to finally arrive at the viewpoint.
Daniel Wheeler > Sun setting behind the mountains along the highway to Jasper.
Daniel Wheeler > The Num-Ti-Jah lodge along the highway near Bow Lake. We stopped here to warm up and see if they might have some coffee or hot chocolate. We ended up staying for an hour, chatting with the InnKeeper, sitting by the fire, and looking through their gift shop. It's a great little spot, and we had it all to ourselves. I'm sure if we come back in the Summer, it would be a much different experience as this area sees many, many tourists.
