Daniel Wheeler > Swaying palm trees at Kiholo Bay
Daniel Wheeler > On our most recent trip to Hawaii, we had a chance to visit several new areas since we were there for an extended period of time. One of our favorite new places was the Place of Refuge park (aka Pu'uhonua o Honaunau). Most visitors to the Big Island visit the snorkelling area just outside the park, but very few ever pay the $5 park fee to enter the state park. Within the park boundaries, there is a short hike that leads through beautiful palm trees and shoreline leading you to some ancient Hawaiian ruins. We stopped at these tide pools and played around for at least an hour. The water was crystal clear and would get refreshed every minute or so by the next wave. The sandy bottom was a perfect place to lounge and listen to the surf hit the lava rocks. Next time, we'll be bringing refreshments and spending the day.

Daniel Wheeler > Fall color at Rohr Lake. Didn't quite realize it when we embarked on this hike with 2 dogs, and 3 kids...but this is quite the hike. Although it's only a mile or two, the last half has no trail. We ended up hiking the hillside in the mud to get up to the ridge line. Quite an adventure with a 9 yr old, 2 yr old, and 9 month old baby. Still a great trip though, and we were fortunate to have another beautiful BC lake all to ourselves for the afternoon. After the hike, we stopped in Pemberton at Pamela's Cook shack for some beer and dinner. One of our best dinners/settings since moving to BC. Can't wait to head back again next Summer.

Daniel Wheeler > Taken from Blue Lake Pass, which was 2.5 miles from our campsite. From the pass, you can see Upper and Middle Blue Lake. Dallas Peak and some of the more remote mountains of the Sneffels Wilderness Area can be seen beyond.
